What is a Virtual Gastric Band?

Knowing that everything you think, feel or do comes from your mind … imagine THIS (–>) is your new stomach - that’s right just the portion above the band is all you need to feel full !! And it’s adjustable, so we can tighten it or loosen it , as necessary, along the way. ALL JUST WITH HYPNOSIS – a HYPNOTHERAPY GASTRIC BAND !!

There are a lot of exciting things about this approach, one big on is NO DIET.. that’s right, you can eat WHATEVER you want… you just WANT less of it. (And frankly, people find that they just naturally eat more healthily because they are listening to their bodies – it is so natural, it is not a restriction.) There are no lists of good and bad foods, there are no tables of calories… because this is what you WANT.. you want to just be NATURAL.. naturally thinking and acting like a slim person.

Second – There is also no extreme exercise, although MOVING is an important thing to do. Otherwise your body may not realize you need those muscles and it will start to absorb them instead of the fat. We will address this as part of the program. Being more in touch with your body’s needs – for food and movement – is a fundamental part of this program.

And, of course, (third) there is no need for actual surgery with all it’s possible side effects and recovery period and expense.

But you still get ALL the benefits of the gastric band – eating less, by listening to your body, just becomes NATURAL.. that is why this is PERMANENT.

AND there are ADDITIONAL BENEFITS ( not available with just a gastric band ).
These include MOTIVATION – what is better for keeping your motivation up than hypnotherapy and regular check ins with a live human being !!

Another additional benefit is conquering the underlying emotional issues – that’s right, if you have these ( and may do), we have the right tools to move beyond those emotional reasons for eating.

Alisia’s Video UPDATED

Some of Alisia’s (I am spelling her name correctly this time) friends commented on Facebook that they really couldn’t see her body well under that coat, so she came back in to reshoot her “after” video. It was GREAT to see her again. In the intervening 2 weeks she had lost 3 more pounds – for a total of 14 pounds in 11 weeks.. AND.. well watch the video.

Virtual Gastric Band Trial – Success Story – Alicia

So the Virtual Gastric Band trial program is over. And now we can begin to publish the success stories. Here is Alicia. Maybe you can emphathize with her. She had tried many diets without success. On this program she lost 11 pounds and “LOTS” of inches. She is healthier and happier and even had a “surprise” benefit. This program is all about permanent change – not rapid weight loss. Anyway, check it out in her own words:

Love Your Body

It seems appropriate on Valentines Day to speak of LOVE.   And when it comes to weight loss SELF LOVE is appropriate.. particularly the LOVE for your own BODY.   Maybe right now it isn’t in the shape you really want it to be, but it is SO MUCH HARDER to get it into shape if you have negative feelings for it.  Time after time, in my career as a hypnotherapist for weight, I have found that as soon as someone starts really caring for and APPRECIATING their body, it becomes so much easier to lose weight.

Think of it – without this body, where would you be?  It is your life.  It is appropriate to WANT to take care of it, to cherish it to the extent of giving it what it REALLY needs.  And that is a healthy diet and moving it around regularly.  I am not talking about all the “feel good” treatments – although there is nothing wrong with a nice massage or steam room, etc etc – but rather the basics.  Yes, starting with the basics, so that you SLOW DOWN around food.  Take time to get in touch with your body’s actual needs.  And when it is full, STOP EATING.  And start to notice what different foods do to your body.

Give your body a Valentine’s Day gift of trying out an elimination diet – removing  the most common causes of issues – sugar, gluten and dairy – and then adding them back in one at a time in a “pure form” to see what happens.

Or , just start saying “I love all parts of my body” morning and night and you will begin to find your mind and body working together more and your real body shape will be revealed.

Week 2 of the Trial – Motivation

This week we started off having everyone talk about that new piece of clothing in their target size that they purchased, Lots of great new outfits were described and several people had set target dates to be in the outfits – on an upcoming birthday or a holiday. This was a timely discussion as this week was all about motivation.

In fact Week 2 is typically a tough week the elation of the first week is gone and the concept of the long-term comes back into play. About 50% reported some significant barrier popping up this week

  • 2 talked about difficulties in social situations (wanting not to be rude or just finding the outlay of food too tempting)
  • 4 felt they lost momentum or just felt they were having to “fight it” more
  • other mentioned snacking, stress and pain as being triggers or issues.

The real positives were that people also reported that their motivation really helped support them through the issues and they noticed their behavior but “beat themselves up less”. This is actually FABULOUS in two ways – because it is easier to change what we notice and it is easier to sustain the change if we don’t let our lapse discourage us.

There is a well-known model of behavioral change which has primarily been used in developing programs for changing health habits. It is called the Transtheoretical Model of Change, or more commonly “the Cycle of Change”. ( Click here if you want to read a technical article on this model.) The model is best applied to INTENTIONAL CHANGE, such as this program, and it includes the steps of Pre-contemplation, Contemplation, Preparation, Action, Maintenance and (Re)Lapse. As such it makes it clear that lapses are a natural part of the cycle “do not infer failure. It simply means that change is difficult, and it is unreasonable to expect anyone to be able to modify a habit perfectly without any slips. When relapse occurs, several trips through the stages may be necessary to make lasting changes. Each time the person is encouraged to review, reflect and learn from their slips.”  In other words, we may need to go around that cycle several times to achieve permanent change and, in my experience, this is particularly true of weight loss, due to our extremely complex relationship with food.

Or as Dr. Bentham put it, much more simply “there are 21 meals in the week, if 17 or 18 were the way you wanted them, you should be very happy with yourself.” Dr. Bentham went on to cover some motivation related topics helping people think through the underlying pain and pleasure aspects of this change. And then, of course, a the hypnosis for the week followed.

Virtual Gastric Band Trial – Week 1 Results

Despite snowy conditions, the intrepid participants in the Virtual Gastric Band/Living Healthy Victoria trial came out !
They reported WONDERFUL success. They all have the twice Daily Audio CD to listen to , as well as the weekly session to come attend.
Even though weighing yourself is not required until the end of the month, at least two people did weigh themselves and they each lost 7 pounds.
Other success reported include eating smaller meals, eating 3 meals ( some of the particpants were meal skippers), not eating snacks, really feeling that gastric band ( even to the extent of food feeling like it was riding higher) and avoiding having to finish everything, jsut becasue it was there.
Here is a fun video of one of the participants reporting on her first week in the program:

This is wonderful – this program is all about habit changes, but it is not an overnight phenomena… so at this session ( the 2nd of 7 sessioins included in the trial) we discussed blocks and barriers and Dr. Bentham lead the group in an exploration of Cognitive Distortions and how to reframe them. Next session will be about motivation !

Getting Ready for the Virtual Gastric Band Trial Program

Well the trial started last night.  It was great.  Everyone showed up and the enthusiasm was wonderful.

It’s amazing how much had to be done to get ready.  I know how to give the program, but I want to take best advantage of Dr. Bentham’s talents and knowledge (he can provide in depth information on what is going in your body during weight loss, what is going on in your brain during cravings, diet adjustments in month 2, what vitamins to take, and so much more)  AND I want to make sure that we can document all the results in a way, you, the, reader can benefit by … here’s just a top level list:

  • Burning enough CD’s for everyone
  • Video release forms so we can show before and after videos
  • What are we going to take video with and what are we going to edit with
  • Scheduling the video time before and after to fit people’s schedules
  • Getting email releases so we can use a group list
  • Bringing all the Hypnotherapy props ( music, singing bowl, etc.)
  • Designing the baseline questionnaire and getting to everyone over the internet

It’s all great.. all about getting people slimmer and healthier and documenting it !

Virtual Gastric Band Trial Starting Soon

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I am very excited about this TRIAL of the Virtual Gastric Band that I will be running in Victoria over the next 3 months.   I will be posting about the results as we go.

Best of Both Worlds

I am teaming with local Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Bryn Bentham, to offer an opportunity to take part in a free trial for a brand new weight loss program. This system incorporates the hypnotic tool, the Virtual Gastric Band, developed by UK clinical hypnotherapist Sheila Granger, along with tools and information from the latest medical research regarding the physiology and psychology of weight loss.

Built on PROVEN Protocols

The Virtual Gastric Band has gone through similar trials in the United Kingdom (UK), revealing a 95% success rate. The first trial saw 24 out of 25 candidates lose an astounding 190 lbs. in 5 weeks. This result attracted the attention of a General Practitioner in Beverley, East Yorkshire England and a second trial was conducted with 12 of his patients who had been removed from the bariatric surgery (gastric band surgery) waiting list by UK’s National Health Services (NHS) due to budget cuts. Again 95% of the group experienced a positive result. As a result the program has attracted people from all over the UK.

7 Group Sessions/ Limited Enrollment

The free treatments will be delivered in 7 group sessions. There will be 5 weekly sessions and 2 follow-up sessions roughly 3 weeks apart. All sessions will be delivered at the offices of Dr. Bentham on Monday evenings. The first session will be on Monday, January 9, 2012.

More details, including the complete text of the press release, are available on the website LivingHealthyVictoria.com

Enrollment is limited to 12 people.

So why are we doing this?

We just want to collect the data on the results to share with you.

•While the Virtual Gastric Band has been PROVEN in the UK, it is not well known in the US and Canada and we want local results.
•The participation of Dr. Bentham means we are able to add even more into the program regarding the physiology and psychology of weight loss
• The previous studies were limited to 3 or 4 sessions – our study incorporates 7 sessions are spread over 11 weeks, allowing you to really incorporate the changes into your lifestyle.

As Dr. Bentham says “Julia’s virtual gastric band helps break the overeating cycle, which is the first step. We then explore how your body is meant to function, and give you the tools you need to support healthy metabolism. Weight loss is the side effect.”
